Voice cloning is powerful technology, and that power comes with responsibility. This page lays out exactly how GiftSong handles your voice, what we will and won't do, and how we've designed the product to prevent misuse.

1. Consent — You can only clone your own voice

GiftSong only allows voice cloning from a live recording made inside the iOS app. We do not accept uploaded audio files or clips of other people. This design decision is intentional: it makes it structurally difficult to clone someone else's voice without their knowledge.

When you record, you are explicitly asked to confirm the voice is yours. Using the app to impersonate someone else, create misleading content, or harass any person is prohibited under our Terms of Service.

2. Voice data retention & encryption

• Encryption at rest: Your 30-second voice sample is stored encrypted on Cloudflare's infrastructure.
• No cross-user model sharing: Your voice model is tied to your account and used exclusively to generate your personal songs.
• No training of public models: We do not use your voice sample or any generated song to train shared, public, or third-party AI models.
• Transmission: All voice uploads and song retrievals happen over TLS 1.3 (HTTPS) only.

3. Your right to delete

In Settings → Voice, tap "Delete voice model". This action:

• Immediately purges your voice sample from our storage
• Invalidates your voice model (new songs cannot be generated until you re-record)
• Does not auto-delete previously generated songs (use the separate "Delete song" action for each)

Deletion is effective within minutes. There is no "undelete" — make sure you actually want to remove it before tapping.

4. Biometric data classification (GDPR / BIPA / CCPA)

Under several privacy regulations, a voice model that uniquely identifies an individual can qualify as biometric data. GiftSong treats voice data accordingly:

• GDPR (Article 9): Voice data is processed on the lawful basis of your explicit consent when you record in the app. You can withdraw consent at any time via deletion.
• BIPA (Illinois): We provide written notice of the purpose (song generation) and retention period, and obtain your consent before collection.
• CCPA / CPRA (California): Voice data is disclosed in our Privacy Policy as a category of personal information we collect, and you have the right to access, delete, and opt-out of sale (we do not sell data).

5. AI model disclosure

GiftSong's pipeline combines three model families:

• Lyric generation: Fine-tuned large language model focused on heartfelt, scene-appropriate writing
• Voice cloning: Neural voice synthesis trained on public-domain and licensed vocal data — not on GiftSong user voices
• Music production: Generative music models producing genre-appropriate arrangements

We use third-party inference providers for some steps. All processing happens in regions with data-protection agreements compliant with GDPR (EU) and analogous standards.

6. Content moderation

The following uses are prohibited and will result in account termination:

• Cloning another person's voice without their consent (regardless of technical workaround)
• Creating songs intended to harass, threaten, or demean any individual or group
• Generating content impersonating public figures for deceptive purposes
• Creating sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise harmful content
• Using GiftSong for commercial resale of generated songs without a commercial license (contact us)

7. Minors

GiftSong is not intended for children under 13 (under 16 in the EU / UK). We do not knowingly collect voice samples or personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data to us, contact [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.

8. Song ownership & commercial use

Songs generated by GiftSong are intended for personal, non-commercial gifting. You retain the right to share your generated songs privately with recipients, download them, and use them in personal-context videos (e.g., a birthday video for a family member).

Commercial use (selling songs, licensing for advertisements, using in monetized media) requires a separate commercial license. Contact [email protected].

9. Incident reporting & abuse

If you believe someone has cloned your voice or created a GiftSong song without your consent:

1. Email [email protected] with the share link and a brief description
2. We will take the content offline within 24 hours pending investigation
3. If the violation is confirmed, the responsible account will be terminated and the voice model permanently deleted

10. Audio provenance (roadmap)

We are evaluating C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) metadata for generated audio, so recipients can cryptographically verify a song was created by GiftSong. This will roll out in a future update.
